According to the standards of ASTM A820/A820M and ISO 13270, steel fiber is a kind of cold-draw wire fibrous material that used in concrete to enhance its structural durability and strength. The types of steel fibers are divided into five types, cold-drawn wire, cut sheet, melt-extracted, mill cut, modified cold-drawn wire, which based upon the product or process of steel fiber.
Steel fiber is to control concrete cracking and prevent water from bleeding. Steel fiber is usually used in concrete or construction projects in order to control cracking due to plastic shrinkage and drying shrinkage. Additionally, the use of steel fiber in tunnelling projects are increasing.
In some specific circumstances, steel fiber can replaces traditional steel reinforce rebar in concrete. Steel fiber produces great impact-resistance, abrasion resistance and shatter-resistance.
